Our Story
Living Waters Lutheran Church is a Confessional, Liturgical, Lutheran congregation in Liverpool, NSW, led by Pastor Bruce Flanagan. We are a welcoming community embodying radical hospitality, where all are invited to join in worship and fellowship. As a holy, Christian church, we are an assembly of believers where the gospel is purely preached, and the holy sacraments are administered according to the divine Word, as taught in our Lutheran confessions.
We believe that the true unity of the Christian church rests in the harmonious preaching of the gospel and the faithful administration of the sacraments, not in uniform human-made ceremonies, as affirmed in Ephesians 4:4–5: “There is one body and one Spirit, just as you were called to the one hope of your calling, one Lord, one faith, one baptism.” Though the church in this life includes both the righteous and the unrighteous, we trust in the efficacy of the sacraments, as Christ teaches in Matthew 23:2–3, regardless of the human hands administering them.
At Living Waters, we strive to live out our faith through vibrant worship, steadfast confession, and a commitment to extending Christ’s love to all.

Our History
In 1962, Living Waters Lutheran Church joyfully relocated from Cabramatta to its new home on Flowerdale Rd, Liverpool, starting in a modest wooden building filled with faith and promise. Over the next three decades, our congregation flourished, growing steadily as a vibrant community of believers. The small wooden church, though cherished, soon became too small to hold our expanding family.
Inspired by our shared vision, plans for a new multi-functional worship centre took shape in 1988. Construction began in 1990, and for two years, our congregation embraced the opportunity to worship at a nearby public school, strengthening our bonds as a community. On 5 July 1992, we celebrated the dedication of our new worship centre—a versatile and welcoming space where God’s people gather to worship, pray, and serve. This centre has since become a beacon of hospitality, opening its doors to other Christian church communities from diverse cultural backgrounds, fostering unity in Christ.
In the late 1990s, the restructuring of the Holsworthy army base led to some members relocating, and over time, many of our young people grew up, married, and started new chapters elsewhere. While we fondly remember our founding members, many of whom have gone to be with the Lord since 2000, we are blessed with a resilient and dedicated core of members who have faithfully served for years. Today, Living Waters continues to thrive as a Confessional, Liturgical, Lutheran congregation under the leadership of Pastor Bruce Flanagan, radiating radical hospitality and rooted in the gospel, as we look forward to the future with hope and joy.
